Course Description
This master class is about understanding how to engage and drive music spectators to remote geographical areas through a music festival. The development of festivals and their impact on culture and geographical territories has been recently defined as ‘festivalization’ – this is not a new phenomenon. Festivals can be organized and preceived as cultural events, unique moments in time that are able to leave a trace inside spectators. The importance of music-cultural phenomena as products or services was appreciated by many, and as a result, culture became a valuable economic component – from 2010, in fact, the growing economic importance of culture started to be referred to as cultural economy.
In this era, travel companies and organizers are in the position to take an advantage of the music tourism trend and work together to create an impact that goes beyond the number of spectators attending the festival – an impact that can affect other aspects of a territory.
This master class let students understand how to think a music project, how to turn it attractive for foreign tourists, how to track the impact brought to the people and to the territory.

Alessandra Di Caro is a communication manager based in Milan and co-founder of Butik, a communication agency with the aim to promote music tourism in Italy. Butik create synergies between Italian music festivals and their surroundings, promoting local culture, food and traditions, developing ad-hoc projects with tour operators and institutions. Alessandra has a strong experience as digital and strategic planner working for the leading media agencies in Italy.
